The Peninsula Tokyo Loves Sakura!

01/03/2019

Each spring in Japan, in a modern take on the time-old tradition of gathering under the blossoming sakura (cherry blossom) trees to drink and feast, the hotel lobby is transformed into a prime indoor ohanami (cherry blossom viewing) destination, with three-meter-high trees in full bloom and festive sakura flower arrangements. As the trees arrive ahead of the blossom front outdoors, guests can get a head start on the season’s merrymaking as they enjoy the flowers in the warmth and gaiety of this iconic Peninsula lobby space. It is an opportunity to experience the special moment with live music streaming from the balcony above, and seasonal delights like sakura jelly panna cotta, sakura strawberry lamingtons, and homemade sakura scones gracing the delightful Sakura Afternoon Tea

To celebrate this season, The Peninsula Boutique and Café will serve a special Hanami Picnic Set, perfect for a special hanami gathering. Guests will also enjoy our pink-themed sweets including Sakura cakes, Sakura Chocolates and Sakura Popcorn at The Peninsula Boutique. Until April 14, mixologists at Peter: The Bar shake and stir a trio of original Sakura Cocktails inspired by prime locations to view the cherry blossoms in Tokyo, while Peter presents special Sakura Menus for lunch and dinner as well as aHanami Afternoon Set offered in an elegant pink lacquered box. A unique blend of Peninsula Sakura Tea, created in collaboration with Art of Tea, will be a give-away gift when enjoying Afternoon Tea at The Lobby or any of the Sakura menus at Peter or Hei Fung Terrace.

Our limited edition sakura-themed Mini Cooper S Clubman will be driving from March 15 through the fashionable streets of Ginza near the hotel. The Sakura Viewing Tour will be available for a day and evening tour using the Peninsula fleet. The Concierge team recommends Hibiya Park, Chidorigafuchi and the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, all a brief walk or short drive away.  In-house guests can also take advantage of the hotel’s three-wheeled, power-assisted PenCycles for a fun, free, and faster way to enjoy the sights of the city at this most festive and magical time of the cherry blossoms.

With the highly anticipated sakura season, The Peninsula Tokyo looks forward to sharing special #PenMoments with travelers from near and far!
