After showcasing a grand Kamon artwork titled “The Peninsula Tokyo + Sakura + Art” in the spring, The Peninsula Tokyo is excited to partner once again with the renowned father-and-son artist team, Mr. Shoryu Hatoba and Mr. Yoho Hatoba. This autumn, they will present a captivating new Kamon artwork display entitled “The Peninsula Tokyo + Kaede + Art”, beautifully reflecting Japanese tradition and the essence of autumn.

The installation features the hotel's original emblem, designed in the shape of a beloved maple flower, set against a national treasure painting from 1592. The artists have crafted this unique emblem specifically for this occasion, incorporating a delicate ‘P’ for Peninsula into the emblem. Measuring seven meters high by eleven meters wide (approximately 23 feet by 36 feet), this stunning art wall is printed on 112 strips of Japanese washi paper, seamlessly complementing the warm and inviting atmosphere of The Lobby.

Kamon, also known as ‘family emblem’, is a traditional emblem form that has been used since ancient times in Japan to identify individuals, families, or more recently, institutions and businesses. The creation of Kamon relies exclusively on perfect circles and straight lines. As third- and fourth-generation artists, the father-and-son duo skillfully combines this time-honored craft with contemporary flourishes, integrating their distinctive styles and digital techniques.

The art piece will be displayed in The Lobby from September 6 to November 12, 2024.
