Horses in Paris conjures Hermès more than high kicks and show jumps, but the City of Lights does indeed play host to France’s biggest equestrian event, the nine-day Salon du Cheval de Paris.
Attracting around 450 exhibitors, 150,000 visitors and 2,300 horses to Paris Nord Villepinte, the horsey fun kicks off with Défile dans Paris (20 Nov), a horse parade around the capital. Starting from the Bois de Boulogne, the procession takes in iconic sites including the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and Trocadéro.
At the main venue, the World Arabian Horse Championship (25-27 Nov) is the premier international gathering of purebred Arabian horses, featuring more than 100 beauties from 20 countries, with prizes for the finest specimens.
Thrilling equestrian show the Nuit du Cheval (26 Nov) is an artistic performance by horses and riders, drawing on military heritage to deliver daring gallops, feats and spectacular stunts.
Prestigious four-day show-jumping spectacle the Longines Masters of Paris (1-4 Dec), the Euro leg of a Grand Slam, features art, fashion and gourmet food at the Prestige Village, including live music and DJ-fuelled after-parties. A children's club welcomes budding talents for pony workshops and introductions to vaulting.
All-level indoor horse competition the Paris Indoor (26 Nov-4 Dec) features show-jumping, dressage, women’s team competition Horse-Ball (26-27 Nov), hunting horse meet Le Hunter (2-3 Dec), and Western-style Barrel Racing (3 Dec). Giddy-up!
