First baked in the quaint kitchen of La Viña in San Sebastián, nestled in the Basque Country near the Spanish-French border, the Basque Burnt Cheesecake is cherished across France for its velvety texture, rich flavour, and artisanal charm. Creamier than the classic Gâteau Basque, it is a dessert that whispers indulgence with every bite.
Inspired by this dreamy delicacy, Chef William Mahi, a native of the Basque region and the culinary visionary behind Michelin-starred Jing, reimagines the Mid-Autumn mooncake with a poetic fusion of Basque soul and Yunnan terroir. The Jing Basque Moodcake is not merely a play on words; it is a celebration of joy, sharing, and seasonal harmony. Each bite radiates warmth and festive spirit, inviting guests to savour and share in the beauty of the moment.
Encased in a gift box that inherits the classical elegance of Jing’s interiors, the design draws from a jade-green palette, with circular contours inspired by embroidered silk screens, symbolising the full moon and the philosophy of balance. The rhythmic, symmetrical opening of the box evokes a sense of ceremony and grace. As the lid gently reveals the mooncakes within, it becomes a moment of quiet luxury, perfect for gifting, sharing, and expressing heartfelt blessings.
