Peninsula in Pink

26/09/2016
The Peninsula Beijing inspires guests to once again appreciate all things pink for the Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. The annual group-wide Peninsula in Pink campaign is now on its sixth year. This year, the group is proud to bring its collaboration with China’s most celebrated avant-garde photographer and multimedia artist, Chen Man, to a worldwide audience.

On this occasion, the artist is presenting "Nao Nao” (挠挠), an exclusively commissioned series of art pieces that will be installed in 10 Peninsula destinations around the world. For The Peninsula Beijing, Chen Man has created Vision-Taikongnaut, an interactive installation on display in The Lobby inspired by the success of China’s first manned spaceflight. This tear-shaped artwork symbolises the value of seeking personal fulfilment in contrast to the desire for satisfaction derived from ultra-luxury items. It also presents a positive message about the power of achieving dreams.

The photograph is covered by two pink dots: symbols of breasts and a colon, which is supposed to trigger conversation. In a nod to The Peninsula Hotels’ focus on China this year, visitors will use traditional “nao nao” bamboo sticks to gently scrape the dots and slowly unveil the image behind. The photograph will be auctioned at the pink cocktail party on 29 September, and the money raised will be donated to the China Breast Cancer Foundation.

Throughout October, guests at The Peninsula Beijing will also enjoy specially designed pink-themed welcome amenities, special dining and spa promotions. Click here to find more details.
