A Stunning Sakura Kamon Artwork at The Lobby

The hotel is thrilled to showcase a grand Kamon artwork in its iconic lobby, beautifully reflecting Japanese tradition and the essence of the cherished sakura season.
Each spring, Japan marks the arrival of Sakura with a celebration unlike any other natural phenomenon. The fleeting beauty of the cherry blossom holds deep cultural significance for the Japanese people, symbolizing the transient nature of life. Staying true to The Peninsula Hotels' brand philosophy of blending elegance and glamour with the unique essence of each destination, The Peninsula Tokyo proudly embraces and celebrates the Sakura spirit, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the magic of spring.
To celebrate the arrival of the cherished Sakura (cherry blossoms) this year, The Peninsula Tokyo’s iconic Lobby will once again feature an awe-inspiring Kamon art installation entitled “The Peninsula Tokyo + Sakura + Art" crafted in collaboration with the renowned father-and-son Kamon artist duo, Mr. Shoryu Hatoba and Mr. Yoho Hatoba.
The centerpiece reimagines the hotel’s original emblem as a cherry blossom, drawing inspiration from a 1593 national treasure painting. The emblem, specially designed by the artists for this occasion, subtly incorporates the letter "P" for Peninsula within the emblem. Standing 7.6m high and 11.2m wide (approximately 25 feet by 37 feet), this magnificent artwork is printed on 112 strips of traditional Japanese washi paper, seamlessly blending with the warm and inviting atmosphere of The Lobby.
Kamon, also known as ‘family emblem’, is a traditional emblem form that has been used since ancient times in Japan to identify individuals, families, or more recently, institutions and businesses. The creation of Kamon relies exclusively on perfect circles and straight lines. As third- and fourth-generation artists, the father-and-son duo skillfully combines this time-honored craft with contemporary flourishes, integrating their distinctive styles and digital techniques.
The art piece will be displayed in The Lobby from March 1 until May 9, 2025.
