The 1980s and ’90s were a uniquely compelling time in Hong Kong’s history, and an era that will forever be remembered fondly by those who experienced it. Drawing inspiration from that heady time, The Peninsula Hong Kong is tapping into the city’s collective memory to present The Lobby “Golden Age” Dinner on Tuesday 25 June 2019, a one-night-only celebration paying tribute to the classic dishes that defined the Hong Kong culinary scene during these decades, as well as the unmistakeable Cantopop hits that provided the soundtrack.
Taking guests on a nostalgic gastronomic journey, The Lobby’s culinary team is reviving some of the best-loved dishes that graced the menus of old-style Western restaurants during this era and reimagining them with luxury ingredients that offer an indulgent modern twist. Caesar salad has been upgraded with a topping of Boston lobster and the Comprador soup is taken to new heights by the addition of dry-cured Jinhua ham and julienned abalone. For the main course, guests can choose between Seafood brochettes with crispy rice and meunière sauce, and Barbecued Mangalica pork with baby vegetables and thin egg noodles, while dessert is a visually striking all-time favourite: Baked Alaska flambé with sponge cake and ice cream.
While their taste buds are being tickled by these delightful culinary throwbacks, guests will also have the chance to roll back the years by listening to the most popular songs of the 80s and 90s performed by a live band and singer, creating a unique and stirring multisensory trip down memory lane.
The Lobby Canto Pop Dinner takes place from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm on 25 June 2019, and is priced at HK$ 1,688 per person with 10% service charge. For enquiries, or to make a booking, please contact The Lobby on +852 2696 6772, or via email at diningphk@peninsula.com.
