The Peninsula Shanghai Sponsors the Formula E

The Peninsula Shanghai was the proud sponsor of the motor racing team NIO at ABB FIA Formula E Championship race in the Sanya E-Prix on 23 March, 2019. This year’s partnership is the second time that The Peninsula Shanghai has supported Formula E since 2017. Launched in 2014, Formula E is the world’s first fully electric motorsports series and represents a global vision for the future of sustainable high-speed motor racing.

Mr. Jisoo Chon, General Manager of The Peninsula Shanghai said: “In supporting NIO team at ABB FIA Formula E Championship race, The Peninsula Shanghai aims to collaborate further in sharing our common vision of being socially responsible to be eco-friendly.”

“As an integral part of the local community, The Peninsula Shanghai remains committed to exhibiting a strong sense of responsibility, level of consciousness and integrity in all that we do,” said Mr. Joseph Chong, Area Vice President and Managing Director, The Peninsula Hong Kong and The Peninsula Shanghai. “Building on the common value of making sustainability part of the appeal of our luxury offering in our respective areas, the hotel looks forward to working closely with NIO in creating a sustainable future, while celebrating the best of the world of motoring.”

In 2015, The Peninsula Shanghai introduced a low-energy consumption BMW i8 hybrid sports car to its luxury vehicle fleet and introduced two complimentary electric car-charging stations in the hotel car park. The same year, The Peninsula Shanghai also hosted the crew of Solar Impulse , during the first round-the-world flight by a solar-powered aircraft, and in September 2016, hosted the “emissions free” Tour de Bund charitable cycle ride through the city.

In light of the success of the hotel’s most recent partnership with NIO, The Peninsula Shanghai looks forward to expanding its exciting corporate responsibility programme in the future.
