In celebration of the Chinese calendar’s most auspicious holiday, The Peninsula Hong Kong will once again host a series of magnificent festive events to greet the advent of the Lunar New Year. With experiences including opulent special meals, spell-binding performances, sumptuous treats and gifts, and exclusive stay and spa packages, visitors can welcome the Year of the Horse in characteristic Peninsula luxury and glamour.
New Year’s Day Lion and Dragon Dances
As it has for the past four decades, The Peninsula Hong Kong will herald the arrival of the Lunar New Year with one of the city’s most breathtaking lion and dragon dance performances – a tradition that symbolises prosperity and good luck for the upcoming year.
Featuring eight elaborately costumed lions and one dragon, the dance will start with a customary awakening ritual in which the eyes of the mighty creatures are dotted to animate them. The awakening ritual of eight lions and one dragon will begin at 9:00 am on 17 February 2026 (First day of Chinese New Year) in the hotel forecourt, after which the dance will continue through the lobby to other areas of the hotel to bring luck, blessings and good fortune to both hotel guests and staff members alike throughout the year. This year, the dance troupe of eight lions and one dragon will include three exclusive Peninsula red and gold lions, all of whose costumes depict the Chinese character for the hotel’s name on the back of their heads.
Following the performance, guests can opt to enjoy a Chinese New Year Breakfast Set at The Lobby restaurant, which will include the gift of a special good fortune mahjong tile for each diner who ordered the breakfast. They may also choose to collect traditional fai chun (calligraphic ornaments conferring New Year’s abundance) outside the entrance to The Verandah and Spring Moon restaurants from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm, and 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.
