Hailed as “the best restaurant east of the Suez” when it first opened its doors in 1953, Gaddi’s is regarded as a timeless institution of fine dining in every sense of the term. Gaddi’s was the first establishment in Asia to offer exquisite European cuisine, which it continues to do to this day – with a global reputation for excellence that has been recognized with a Michelin star.

In celebration of Gaddi’s continued success, The Peninsula Hong Kong is delighted to invite guests to enjoy a special, one-night-only dining event – Gastronomic Memories – on Thursday, 7 October 2021. The experience will transport diners back to the 1970s through a glamorous culinary extravaganza, including a presentation highlighting six key aspects of Gaddi’s remarkable history: The Origin: Leo Gaddi; A Legendary Maître d'hôtel: Rolf Heiniger; The 70s: A New Era; The Aesthetics; The New Millennium; and The Michelin Star

Paying tribute to the restaurant’s longevity, Chef de Cuisine Albin Gobil has specially curated a gleaming six-course menu featuring contemporary interpretations of classic French dishes from the 1970s, paired with a rare selection of exquisite fine wines from the same decade selected by the restaurant’s sommelier, Felix Law. On this special occasion, Gaddi’s brings back nostalgic memories with a live jazz band performance of selected songs from the album entitled “Live at Gaddi’s” played at the restaurant by The Keymen from the 1960s and 1970s. Prior to joining Gaddi’s, The Keymen performed six shows daily at London’s renowned Windmill Theatre and toured at some of the most popular nightspots all over the U.K., making them an immensely famous band at that time.

Highlights of Chef Gobil’s menu include:

Brittany Turbot Argenteuil Roasted in a Fig Leaf with Matelote Sauce
Turbot from Brittany on the west coast of France is renowned for its freshness and incomparable flavour; the fish is perfectly complemented by a classic matelote preparation with red wine, butter,
and coarsely ground black pepper. Gaddi’s sommelier has chosen to pair the preparation with the smoky and soft 1975 Château Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac, Bordeaux and Mouton Rothschild
was the only top wine estate upgraded to the 1st growth in 1973 under the 1855 Bordeaux Wine Classification. This wine intensifies the smokiness of the grilled turbot and elevates this light yet
exquisite dish to a sublime level.

Limousin Veal Prince Orloff, Gratin Dauphinoise with White Piedmont Truffle
Roast veal loin, stuffed with Emmental cheese, bacon, mushrooms duxelles, and a creamy mornay sauce, is finished with “white diamonds” – premium truffles from the Piedmont region of Italy – and carved with a flourish tableside. The sommelier-chosen wine pairing features the equally superb and full-bodied 1970 Château L'Évangile, Pomerol, Bordeaux (Double Magnum).

“It is difficult to explain to people who haven’t been to Gaddi’s how it is not just another restaurant serving fine French cuisine,” says Florian Trento, Group Executive Chef for The Peninsula Hotels. “People underestimate the emotional attachment to Gaddi’s…that first dance, the proposals. It has meant so much to so many people and families over the decades. After all, how many other fine dining restaurants can claim they have been around for almost 70 years?”

Classic yet evolved, Gaddi’s has preserved the elegance of the fine-dining tradition whilst infusing it with creative modernity. In keeping with the restaurant’s legacy, guests who take part in the one-night culinary celebration will receive two mementos to take home with them: a copy of a limited-edition book, The Story of Gaddi’s; and a portrait by the Photographer and Instructor of Leica Akademie.

Gastronomic Memories dinner is priced at HK$ 10,888* per person with limited seating on Thursday, 7 October 2021. For enquiries or reservations, please contact Gaddi’s by phone at +852 2696 6763 or email at diningphk@peninsula.com.
