Following the overwhelming success of Botero in Hong Kong in 2016: Exhibition of Fernando Botero — the first ever retrospective of Fernando Botero’s works in Hong Kong – The Peninsula Hong Kong is honoured in the highly-anticipated return of Botero.

 

The Peninsula Hong Kong will bring Fernando Botero back to the Grande Dame by exhibiting sixteen of his most iconic painting and bronze sculptures throughout the hotel, including: Sunflowers (1977), Matador with Trophy (1991), Woman Drinking Chocolate (1995), Main Playing Contrabass (1999), Woman in the Street (2005), Still Life with Watermelon (2008), Couple on the Grass (2012), Carnaval (2012), Flowers (2014) and Matador (2014). Six of key Botero sculptures will also hold residence at the hotel, which includes: Adan (2001), Horse (2009), Donna Desnuda de Flanco (2012) Uccellino (2013), Man on Horse (2016), Woman on Horse (2016); and the renowned Bird (2016) and The Sphinx (2016) will arrive the hotel soon in 2018.

 

An announcement to the start of “Botero Sojourn” at The Peninsula Hong Kong took place on 31 May 2018. The sculptures and paintings will be exhibited at The Peninsula Hong Kong until the end of 2018.

 

Fernando Botero was born in Medellín, Colombia in 1932, and attended a matador school in his youth. He later studied art at Madrid’s Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. After his art began to achieve international acclaim in the 1970s, Botero moved to Paris. In the French capital, he began creating sculptures and later, the huge bronze figures that became his hallmark. In 2012, he received the Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture award from the International Sculpture Centre. Today, his paintings and sculptures are exhibited around the world such as Park Avenue in New York City, the Champs-Élysées in Paris and Central Harbourfront in Hong Kong.
