From smart art to sensual spa treats and seductive dining, The Peninsula New York is in the pink this October, backing Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Culture vultures can interact with a pink-themed installation by visionary Chinese multimedia artist Chen Man, channelling the ‘Art of Pink’ theme.
On display will be ‘Miss Wan Studies Hard’, an inspiring photo of a woman riding a bicycle – part of the artist’s 10-part ‘Nao Nao’ (挠挠) series exclusively commissioned for Peninsula hotel destinations around the world. Guests are encouraged to scrape off two large pink dots to reveal the full picture using ‘nao nao’ bamboo sticks ($5 from reception). You can bid for the art works via Paddle8’s online auction site, with all proceeds supporting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and other Peninsula charity partners.
The art of a good spa is celebrated too, so revitalize your skin with a Sattva Khushali Himalayan Crystal Salt Scrub, harnessing mineral-rich salts (pink, natch!) along with special-blend rare essential oils. A Lemongrass and Jade Stone Vitality Pink Manicure offers a holistic hand treatment, with money from both going to the Foundation. You’ll discover a Pink Afternoon Tea in the Gotham Lounge ($65, with a $5 charity donation), and a decadent raspberry cheesecake in fine diner Clement ($17 with a $5 donation).
