The Peninsula Beverly Hills inspires guests to once again celebrate all things pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October through the brand’s Peninsula in Pink initiative. To continue with the Art of Pink theme for the second year, the hotel is proud to partner with China’s most celebrated avant-garde photographer and multimedia artist, Chen Man with the debut of “Young Pioneer in Shenzhou#5.” The visceral depiction of a girl reflecting on the power of dreams showcases Chen Man’s unique combination of digital graphic design, Chinese symbolism and original photography to convey her thoughts. The artwork is part of Chen Man’s “Nao Nao” (挠挠) collection, an exclusively commissioned series of interactive art pieces by Chen Man installed at all ten Peninsula destinations around the world.
The photograph is covered by two pink dots – symbols of breasts and the colon, punctuation that precedes a conversation. In a nod to The Peninsula Hotels’ focus on China this year to celebrate the recent renovation of The Peninsula Beijing, visitors may use traditional nao nao bamboo sticks to gently scrape the dots and slowly unveil the image behind. Chen Man’s inspiration for this installation stems from the Beijing of her childhood, where feelings and emotions were not shared publicly, and the selfless act of scratching a loved one’s back could best convey feelings of sympathy and understanding. Through this art and the unspoken, yet very physical interaction with it, she hopes that removal of the punctuation will open up a dialogue about breast cancer and bring awareness to the cause.
Located adjacent to The Belvedere restaurant, The Peninsula Beverly Hills’ Chen Man piece will be auctioned online at paddle8.com/peninpink from October 17-31, with proceeds benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Visitors can also purchase the “Nao Nao” sticks to scratch the piece and then take home as keepsakes. Information on how to bid on each art piece is available on peninsula.com/pink.
Elite Travel International has proudly partnered with The Peninsula Hotels in the US to support Peninsula in Pink’s Breast Cancer Awareness fundraising initiative. During the month of October, Elite Travel will donate a percentage of all bookings made through the travel agency for The Peninsula hotels in New York, Chicago and Beverly Hills directly to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Additionally, the hotel continues to support Peninsula in Pink with a collection of initiatives including pink décor throughout the hotel, Peninsula in Pink Afternoon Tea in the Living Room, a collection of rose-colored cocktails, a pink dessert at The Belvedere restaurant and a Perfectly Pink Pedicure at The Peninsula Spa. An exclusive Peninsula pink ribbon pin is adorned by all hotel staff throughout October and is available for purchase in the hotel. A portion of all proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
