If you like your comedy edgy, quirky and borderline surreal, then you need a dose of Eddie Izzard. The famous cross-dressing British stand-up comedian brings his rave-success Force Majeure show to Bangkok on 28 February, so give your laughing gear a workout.
Debuting in Bangkok at KBank Siam Pic-Ganesha Theatre, Izzard’s set has toured the globe extensively since 2013, and is fresh from a stint in Asia, cracking smiles from Mumbai to Kathmandu to Kuala Lumpur. There’s an international feel to the show too, with multicultural jokes galore and several bilingual gags.
Trademark silliness abounds, with a cheeky whip through world history, from Izzard donning bowler and brolly in an Avengers outfit to flashbacks to C.17th England and Charles I (wearing a spaniel as a wig), Martin Luther and Julius Caesar. British colonialism gets a memorable mocking, as does God in a sniggerworthy skit about religion.
Animals, naturally, get a look-in, as Izzard is known for crafting hilarious humour around lovable kooky creatures, with a cast of dolphins, dogs, moles and weasels popping up through the two-hour-plus set. Izzard gets personal too, as in the section where he shares his two teen obsessions, the SAS and clandestine make-up (expect nail-varnish, mascara and eyeliner to take a cameo role in proceedings). And if anyone can push a comic routine to the edge of anarchy it’s Izzard. We predict a laugh riot…
