Experience a Confluence of Luminaries at The Peninsula Hong Kong’s French May Celebrations

For this year’s festival, which kicks into high gear in May with the theme ‘Vive L’art’ (Long live art), a multitude of internationally renowned French and local artists will converge in Hong Kong to honour this cultural exchange through music, theatre, and dance performances; visual arts exhibitions; and gastronomic gatherings.

In keeping with its longstanding support of local arts and culture, The Peninsula Hong Kong has played a key role in French May celebrations. This year, the hotel is honoured to serve as partner of the festival – a capacity in which it will host captivating opera performances and exquisite culinary events for both guests and visitors.

Bizet’s Carmen, Reimagined

In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of French composer George Bizet's legendary Carmen – one of the world’s best-loved operas – The Peninsula Hong Kong is delighted to present Les Amours de Carmen Wong, a brand-new dramatic adaptation of the production set in a Hong Kong bar during the 1960s and ‘70s. Audiences will find the iteration enlivened by a distinctly Hong-Kong cinematic style, while preserving the timeless story of impassioned femme fatale Carmen and her tragic love affair. This remarkable operatic masterpiece will feature a cast of exceptional vocalists, including tenor Chen Yong, mezzo-soprano Ashley Chui, soprano Etta Fung and baritone Isaac Droscha.

Three evening performances of Les Amours de Carmen Wong will be staged at The Peninsula Hong Kong: two at its sleek, top-floor restaurant Felix, and one at its legendary French dining destination, Gaddi’s. Each performance will be accompanied by exceptional culinary offerings, specially created for the occasions by the hotel’s award-winning chefs.

A Rendezvous of Icons

Following the successful evening in May, spectacular productions of Les Amours de Carmen Wong will be staged again on Saturday, 20 September 2025, in an equally stunning venue: The Peninsula Hong Kong’s iconic Felix restaurant. Occupying a stylish, airy top-floor space with interiors by visionary French designer Philippe Starck and breath-taking views over Victoria Harbour, Felix has been one of Hong Kong's most sought-after dining destinations since debuting in 1994. The event features a specially curated five-course menu, Carmen’s Desire, crafted by Chef de Cuisine Aurélie Altemaire, including highlights such as French Duck Foie Gras with Strawberries and Basil, Kaviari Baerii Caviar with Ricotta-Spinach Raviolo, and the decadent Felix Opera dessert featuring Coffee Cream and Cardamom Ice-Cream.
