Japanese Kintsugi Art Workshop | Peninsula Academy Programme

The Peninsula Academy

In this new Peninsula Academy programme, guests are invited to discover the timeless art of Kintsugi—the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold—and to embrace the philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection. This exclusive hands-on experience offers a rare opportunity to revive and transform pottery using this centuries-old artistry.

For this workshop, Hasami-yaki (Hasami ware) from Nagasaki Prefecture, celebrated for its refined craftsmanship, has been carefully selected exclusively for Peninsula guests. Each piece is authentically made in Japan, naturally broken rather than intentionally, and thoughtfully curated to provide a genuine and meaningful Kintsugi experience. Guests are also welcome to bring their own broken pottery to work on during the workshop, subject to prior consultation and time consideration.

Led by a master artisan from KINTSUGIKURASHI, an esteemed Tokyo-based Kintsugi school, participants will first learn about the history and aesthetics of both traditional and modern Kintsugi. They will then enjoy a guided, hands-on session following the same principles as the traditional method, while using modern materials that allow for a safer and faster process—ideal for an immersive yet approachable experience.

Held in a serene setting, this intimate workshop accommodates up to six participants and is suitable for adults and children aged six and above. Under expert instruction, guests will transform broken pottery into beautiful, one-of-a-kind works of art—an expression of beauty in brokenness. At the end of the session, each participant will receive their completed piece in a wooden storage box to preserve their creation. A commemorative photo frame and workshop participation certificate will also be presented upon check-out, offering lasting mementos of this unforgettable experience.
