Still Life with Watermelon

Oil on Canvas (194cm x 148cm)

This is a fairly large painting that is a clear manifestation of Master Botero’s aesthetic convictions and interests in Art. It is easy to appreciate the different tonalities of green in the skin of the fruit as well as the rosy grainy texture of the contents inside it. The clear intention of the painting is to celebrate life and to provide pleasure along the lines of the quote by the great French artist of the XVII century he so admires, Nicholas Poussin: “Painting is an expression of lines, colour and forms upon a flat surface made with the intention to produce pleasure”.
