Kick off the Lunar New Year with one of the most spectacular lion and dragon dance performances in the city. The dance, which will begin on the morning of Tuesday, 17 February 2026 at 9:00 am, symbolises prosperity and good luck for the coming year – and the annual Chinese New Year performance is one of the most celebrated and respected traditions at The Peninsula Hong Kong. In addition to the main performance on New Year's Day.

Featuring eight elaborately costumed lions and one dragon, the dance will start with a customary awakening ritual – in which the eyes of the mighty creatures are dotted to animate them. The lions and dragon will then roar to life with exuberant whirling and pulsating movements, which will eventually bring them into the hotel lobby.

The Peninsula Hong Kong has long been known for staging the city’s most impressive and elaborate lion and dragon dance. In keeping with this legacy, our hotel goes to great lengths to ensure an unforgettably spellbinding performance. As a nod to the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited’s Chinese roots and the location of its flagship property, it has become customary for a lion and dragon dance to be performed at the openings of other Peninsula properties around the world.
