Last week, LUXE shared where best to enjoy Tokyo’s ravishing cherry blossoms (Sakura Season); this week, we’ve turned our gimlet eye on sakura-related retail – here’s what we’re loving…
Visit Shinjuku’s famed Isetan Food Hall for exquisite hanami-ready bento boxes and picture-pretty sakura-themed provisions. Hanami parties are a potluck affair, so guests usually bring easy-to-share platters. Skip down into the subterranean wonderland of palatable produce, from sushi bento boxes to yakitori skewers, salads, dainty cream cakes and super-sized strawberries – all immaculately displayed and packaged. Then head to nearby Shinjuku Gyoen for pond-side nibbles under the cherry trees.
Foodies should also flock to sweet stalwart Kameya Mannendo in Meguro-ku for purdy blossom-pink confections. The coveted Navona cakes contain whipped cream sandwiched between two biscuits of fluffy light Castella sponge – go for the seasonal sakura and cherry flavour for a mouthful of spring.
On the market for some elegant floral stationery? Pop into one of our favourite Shibuya stores Winged Wheel for blossom-embellished custom paper, divine luxuriant handmade cards and gifts with contemporary, customisable prints on cotton or washi paper. Custom printing takes two weeks, but can be shipped internationally.
For must-have hanami-friendly hand towels and other pretty-in-pastel-pink homewares and ceramics, hightail it to Meguro boutique Iori. Their so-soft, fairy-floss Imabari cotton towels can even be monogrammed with your initials while you wait! So chic.
