Ginza 6, an uber-luxury complex in Asia’s most upmarket shopping district Ginza, is a dynamic new addition to Tokyo’s shopping scene. The 13-storey architecturally adventurous hub boasts A-List international and domestic brands, covering men’s and women’s fashion, accessories, kids kit, lifestyle, athleisure, beauty, bags and shoes, and even has a Noh theatre on one of the basement levels!
While the exterior takes its cue from trad Japanese noren entrance curtains, the interior blends contempo art with thoroughly modern boutiques. Ginza 6 has – unsurprisingly – pulled an impressive list of tenants. Fashionistas should swing by to savour cutting-edge collections by US designer Alexander Wang, Belgium’s Maison Margiela, New York’s Rag & Bone, and experimental local menswear label Soph, with Alexander McQueen, Belstaff, Céline, Dior, Saint Laurent, and 3.1 Phillip Lim also in the mix.
Culture vultures will love the installation by Japanese art star Yayoi Kusama, whose trademark polka-dot, red-and-white pumpkins are suspended from the second-floor ceiling until February 2018. A fourth-floor pop-up store allows you to snap up her dotty, fruity designs. Mori Art Museum is helming the ongoing curation, displaying work by artists Shinji Ohmaki (wall flowers) and Misa Funai (mirror landscape) in the hall.
Peckish punters can forage at Ginza 6’s food courts, on floors 6, 13 and in the basement, offering local and global menus for getting your sushi, steak, bento box or matcha ice-cream fix. Sweet as!
