THE PENINSULA TOKYO INTRODUCES “THE PENINSULA LOVES SAKURA”
CELEBRATING JAPAN’S BLOSSOM-BURSTING SEASON
- Japan’s iconic flower is featured in magnificent floral displays and special offers -
Each spring in Japan, the arrival of sakura (cherry blossoms) is celebrated like no other natural phenomenon in the country. Holding special significance to the Japanese people, the short-lived beauty of the sakura flower captures the nation’s heart and spirit as early as February. Picnic plans are hatched as the best blossom-viewing hanami spots are reviewed and special food, sweets, and drinks featuring the delicate flower and its fruit appear on menus nationwide.
In celebration of this magical time, The Peninsula Tokyo is delighted to once again present “The Peninsula Tokyo Loves Sakura” heralding the season with a host of delightful menus inspired by the delicate cherry blossoms. One of the hotel’s most popular offerings is the colorful Sakura Afternoon Tea, featuring savory seasonal finger foods and sakura-inspired sweets presented on a charming silver stand. Homemade Sakura scones are accented with cherry blossom petals and sour cherries, adding a subtle tang to the taste. Diners may pair their afternoon tea with a selection of 20 teas, while enjoying live music from the balcony. The Sakura Afternoon Tea set is available daily at The Lobby between March 15 and April 30, from 11:30 am to 9:00 pm, and is priced at JPY 5,500 per person.
The Peninsula Boutique & Café will offer the Hanami Picnic Set, complete with cold cuts, a colorful salad with red wine dressing, sandwiches, a dessert, fresh fruit, and a half-bottle of Peninsula Champagne, making it the ideal take-away for a hanami picnic at key cherry blossom-viewing spots such as Hibiya Park, Chidorigafuchi, the Imperial Palace East Gardens, Ueno Park, and Shinjuku Gyoenmae Park.
The Hanami Picnic Set is available between March 9 and April 30 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, and is priced at JPY 9,500 for two. Reservations are required and accepted up to three days in advance. Additionally, the skilled pastry team led by Executive Pastry Chef Pascal Cialdella will fill the Boutique with sakura sweets, cakes, and bakery items during this period, complementing the lush pink flowers flourishing in the city. The selection of unique and beautifully crafted fresh items and sakura-inspired sweets and baked goods are also available.
For a souvenir gift or keepsake of this special time in Japan, guests may purchase an original Sakura Pen (JPY 800) and other retail sakura items for purchase are available at The Peninsula Boutique & Café from March 15 to April 30.
At Peter: The Bar, the hotel’s award-winning bartenders will shake and stir two original handcrafted cocktails and mocktails inspired by the season. The Peninsula Junmai Daiginjo-based Fragrance is concocted with sake, almond syrup, lemon juice, and spicy cardamom as a flavor accent, while Sakura Françoise combines rosemary-infused Peach liqueur with tonic water to create a refreshing and sweet flavor. The cocktails are available from March 15 to April 30 between 12:00 pm and 12:00 am from Sunday to Thursday and between 12:00 pm and 1:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Cocktails are priced at JPY 2,200 each while mocktails are priced at JPY 1,800 each.
