Boutique bar Yes Please is a whimsical and clever new addition to BGC. Bar-superstar and restaurateur Erwan Heussaff (of fit-foodie blog The Fat Kid Inside) is the big name behind this coolly casual 80s/90s-themed cocktailer, which boasts a fun Foosball table and drops ace tunes as the night kicks in (expect DJs spinning Nirvana).
Cannily curated drinks boast quirky, nostalgic titles based on 80s and 90s icons, from Top Gun hero Maverick to Devon Sawa and Tommy Lee, with frosty numbers hailing from the slushie machine. Try bourbon-based Legends of the Hidden Temple with green mango and tamarind; Girl Scout Colada, with white rum, pineapple and lime plus marshmallow foam; or the Flying V, a mash-up of mescal, mango and melon juice in a cute tiki-style parrot mug.
Soak up the ‘tails with a hearty plate of garlic steak rice (topped with a fried egg) or pimped-up ‘everything nice’ fries. Interiors are funky and flirty, teaming sociable sofas with rainbow-bright neon lighting and pastel murals flaunting a graphic 80s feel.
With a name inspired by retro toy Magic 8 Ball’s snappy responses, this dive bar says no thanks to the usual high-maintenance bar culture, considering itself an anti-bar for punters who are over clubbing and uptight, upscale venues. They always want you to answer in the affirmative to a good night out that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Yes please!
