Nigel Cabourn
After expanding to locations 7 across Japan, the eponymous British-born label Nigel Cabourn has garnered so many loyal fans that its Nippon flagship known as ‘The Army Gym’ has had to move into a larger boutique in Nakameguro to house its heritage-inflected outdoor wear range. Cabourn, who is also an avid military history buff, takes inspiration from his archive of over 4,000 vintage war uniforms from around the world, for his designs – so what else would serve as a proper showroom for his apparel than a space designed to mirror an… well, an army gym?

Much like its original home just around the corner, the flagship’s new bi-level abode features concrete walls, wooden panel floors and antique military lockers where currently his S/S 2014 collection, plus some in-store exclusives hang austerely along the rails. For the lads, there are M-65 field jackets, crinkled cotton pants and double chest-pocketed medical shirts. While for the ladies, feminine versions from Cabourn’s men’s line from the 10oz denim and cotton Mallory jackets to the heavyweight linen button-up vests to the WWII British Officer-inspired pants are waiting to be donned. Throw in some canvas belts and button on braces and you’re now dressed to kill, soldier. Ten-hut!
