Rainy Day Bars in Shanghai

Rainy Day Bars in Shanghai

With sweltering humidity and heavy rainfall, summer in Shanghai is likely to be more damp squib than sunny sensation. Ditch the brolly and seek retreat instead at one of these perfect rainy-day sip-spots. Cin cin!

The Beach House

Like it says on the tin: with it’s light, bright breezy-chic decor and laid-back atmos, The Beach House brings the seaside to the city. Sip on craft cocktails as you graze from the western menu and you’ll be cast away to the riviera in a jiffy. Opt for the comely terrace when weather permits.

Cobra Lily

Hunker down at this  two-storey hip ship for Asian street food and a well-deserved tipple or two. Raw concrete, plush turquoise banquettes and eye-popping wall art backdrop glammed-up pan-Asian street bites (think mini lemongrass carnitas bánh mì and pho served in sake cups), craft brews and speciality G&Ts. Rocks on late with DJ-spun beats.

This sophisticated siren of Fellini Martinis, crystal beads and mismatched chairs certainly lives up to its name, and pulls an equally smart, well-heeled clique. Sibling to the famous M on The Bund (located opposite), the vibe is relaxed but chic with jazz-soul soundtracks and a contemporary drinks menu that stars concoctions like the ‘Glam’s My Thai’ (coconut rum, coriander, lime, honey and black pepper syrup) or the cheekily named ‘fancy pantsy G&Ts’. Chef Chef Pollitt's Med-tinged small plates keep hunger at bay.

An elegant, candlelit interior and dapper crowd set the scene at this hip-happening, two-tiered Jing'an sipster best known for its excellent whisky selection. Alongside the single malts is a menu of triff cocktails, made using simple, non-sugary ingredients.

House of Blues and Jazz

Stay dry with a drink while enjoying a night of … yep, you’ve got it. Welcoming a range of stellar local and global blues and jazz artists, this chic, Art Deco Bund-based drinking den features a good selection of beers, decent cocktail menu and late-serving brasserie fare.
