Offbeat Fashion Fix

April 27, 2015
If you go down to the Bund today, you’re in for a big surprise. Where once you couldn’t move for LV-loving label Mabels, there are increasingly fewer heavy-hitter hieroglyphs emblazoned across the bags n’ boots of Shanghai’s style set. The reason? Why, cutting-edge boutiques like Glossy, of course. And that’s not to say that local fashionistas are turning their back on brands. Like any fashion-forward city, the cool crowd is merely distancing itself from the ubiquitous, and branching out in search of the off-piste, offbeat and downright gorgeous – which is exactly what you’ll find suspended across the rails of multi-brand haven, Glossy.
As one of the first fashion forerunners of its kind, Glossy has been keeping Shanghai chic for quite some time now. Catering to both guys and gals, the store sports a swish selection of niche names from across the globe, including the sustainable and instantly recognisable bags from Swiss label Freitag; gloomy-but-fly clothing from avant-garde go-to Rick Owens; and the ultimate embodiment of the Japanese urban aesthetic, Yohji Yamamoto. Testament to the quality of wares on offer is the calibre of clientele it attracts – for an insight into who and what’s hot right now, pay a visit to the store and simply take note.
