Get Well Shod

May 18, 2015
John Lobb

Those English gents at John Lobb certainly know how to craft a superb shoe; as well they should, given they’ve had since 1866 to perfect the method. At first, (ahem) solely focused on creating custom kicks for a very privileged handful of clients (the British royals have been patrons from the start, of course), the label is now sold around the globe from their numerous boutiques, one of which stands proud in Shanghai’s glitzy Plaza 66.

Each John Lobb shoe is handcrafted by skilled experts using a 190-stage procedure, and from the Shanghai headquarters it is possible to enjoy the fruits of a 6-week production period via their ‘Bespoke’ and ‘By Request’ methods.

Get measured by a rep and select your style, colour, skin, and sole, and two fittings later you’ll have a shoe that promises to cushion your hooves for a lifetime. Or for more immediate gratification, the ready-to-wear lines go through the same careful artisanal process – you just won’t wait so long for them to arrive from Europe.

With over 150 styles to choose from, and buttery leathers from croc to calf in a full spectrum of colours, chances are high there’ll be something for every taste. After all, what’s good for Jackie Kennedy, Andy Warhol, Frank Sinatra, and Calvin Klein, is good enough for you. No need to be shy – these boots are made for walking!
