Fine Produce, French Fodder

November 06, 2014
Le Bon Georges

It is the pinnacle of every epicurean’s visit to the City of Light: stumbling upon the quintessential Parisian bistro, a little bijou beloved by locals for its delicious classics and charming but wholly unpretentious atmosphere. But, as any visitor to the French capital knows, finding such a prize amid the many highly-priced and poorly-waited tourist traps is oft much easier said than done. Now however, there is Le Bon Georges, a casual neighbourhood nook in South Pigalle that’s fast garnering a loyal local clientele thanks to its ingredient-driven bistro fare, friendly mod-rustic setting and exceptional service.

Make like one of the regulars and opt for the well-priced prix fixe lunch, which includes the plat du jour, plus your choice of an entrée or dessert, all made with pedigreed produce including small-scale caught seafood and fresh locally-grown market vegetables. Meaty a la carte dishes change weekly but maintain a seasonal and sustainable focus, with offerings like steak tartare and frites (made with rich beef from La Lorraine and organic spuds) and spring chicken crowned with roasted root vegetables – all proudly displaying their origins on chalkboard menus adorning the walls. And to pair? A good selection of vins de propriétés available by the glass or bottle, plus perfectly-aged fromage to finish, bien sûr!
