Candelaria + Glass
In search of the beautiful people? Well, you’re guaranteed to find them at one of these two achingly hip late-night Paris venues, both from the creative Quixotic Projects team.
Bringing authentic Mexican to the Haut Marais, charming taqueria Candelaria specialises in agave spirits and squirrels away an exclusive speakeasy out back. Order superb trad Mexi tacos, tostadas and margaritas in the convivial taqueria, served in a super-tiny seated area beside the grill. No reservations are required, but you can book for ‘tails at the bar (look for the secret back-wall door). The guys have won awards for their world-class mixology, so savour an experimental cocktail or two (like La Guèpe Verte, which teams chilli-infused agave with white tequila, lime and coriander), or try a flight of artisanal tequila or mezcal.
Diminutive sister establishment Glass serves late-night hot dogs with housemade pickles, begging to be burnt off on a retro light-up dance floor. Inspired by edgy New York bars, Glass is tucked in beside a sex shop in racy but hot-right-now Pigalles, known for its mash-up of dive bars and diners. You’ll have to squeeze in via a claustrophobic lobby, but once inside this cheeky little number is licensed until the wee hours. With a name like Glass you’d be crazy not to order a bourbon, cocktail or speciality beer, before dancing till dawn to DJs and live local bands. Hic!
