What The Dickens!

The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times to open yet another cocktail bar in Manhattan’s Financial District, but The Dead Rabbit has defied all expectations, rousing crowds of libation enthusiasts and raking in the accolades, including being named one of Forbes’ 15 Hot New Places to Party.

And it’s not hard to see why with partners Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry hailing from The Merchant Hotel’s award-winning cocktail bar in Belfast, and now intoxicating New York’s cocktail cognoscenti with over 70 varieties of C.19th-inspired cobblers, juleps, toddies and daisies.

The Victorian-style pub spans two floors, with the boisterous Taproom downstairs perfect for a hearty pint of stout and a platter of fresh oysters, while the splendid Parlor room welcomes every patron upstairs with a teacup of punch to whet the palate. Both bars boast an enviable selection of whiskeys, including Ireland’s rarest single malt Knappogue Castle 1951, and, in tribute to the Irish saying ‘never water another man’s whiskey’, vintage water flagons line the bar.

On tap is a selection of porters and craft beers, starring Brooklyn’s very own Sixpoint Dead Rabbit dark ale, the perfect accompaniment to the Anglo-Irish menu staples like steak and stout pie, scotch eggs or potted shrimp. Run rabbit, run!
