Fairy Tale Fashion
Given that New York already has its own (Belvedere) castle – not to mention more than a few wolves on Wall Street – it seems only fitting that the fair city should play host to the year's most enchanting exhibition.
The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) invites you to embrace your girly-twirly side with Fairy Tale Fashion, an elaborate exploration of 14 iconic folklore figures seen through the lens of contemporary fashion designers and recreated via knee-weakening haute couture and more.
Dating from the C.18th to the present, over 80 intricate garments and artworks comprise the spectacular showcase, which was imagined by architect Kim Ackert to symbolise four archetypal kingdoms – a forest, a castle, the sea and parallel worlds.
Be blown away by Little Red Riding Hood sporting a darling, Comme des Garçons peaked hood in scarlet patent leather, or Rapunzel in an extravagant Alexander McQueen gown featuring a coppery bead embellishment inspired by her cascading locks.
Dive even deeper and you’ll find a majestic Little Mermaid sporting a feather, sequin, pearl and Swarovski crystal-encrusted Rodarte number from the spring 2015 collection. Grab your glass slippers!
Until 16 Apr, 2016.
