Casa Apicii

September 29, 2016
Date Night Ideal

Does the idea of mozzarella di bufala with Sicilian caponata and lovage get you hot under the collar? How about linguine with clams and lemon? Or roasted duck with summer squash and salsa verde? Getting warmer…?

An undeniably perfect spot for date night, swellegant schmoozer Casa Apicii holds court in a gorgeous rugged-luxe C.19th Greenwich Village townhouse, with mustard velvet chairs, brown leather banquettes and wood-panels lining the split-level room, topped off with atomic-inspired starburst pendant lights and a majestic fireplace.

Lauded bicoastal chef/owner Casey Lane (of LA’s Tasting Kitchen renown) delivers a mouth-watering selection of mozzarellas, perfetto pastas, and plenty of vege-centric Italian fare, aided by local exec chef Adam Nadel (Lincoln Ristorante, A Voce). Many cheeses and pastas are made in-house, and heartier second dishes, spanning seafood, fish, chicken, duck and steak, will satisfy peckish peeps. The restaurant’s cuisine takes inspiration from regional Italian cooking and the changing seasons in New York. Can’t decide what to have? Opt for the four-course tasting menu (veggie available too) where chef will make some stellar selections for the whole table.

Kick off or wrap up with a cocktail in the marble-topped bar, with Apicii’s menu divided into aperitivi and per tutte le ore (for any hour!). We’d happily dive into Il Lido, a fruity concoction of aperol, gin, rhubarb cordial and prosecco, or the cheeky Bella Monica, a swirl of wild flowers vermouth, campari, fresh strawberries and ginger beer. Cin cin!
