A French Family’s Fragrances

August 12, 2014
Annick Goutal

With the likes of artisan perfumers Kilian, Aedes de Venustas, and Bond No. 9 all spritzing lovely scents onto the charming streets of Downtown NYC, there’s little doubt that New Yorkers are spoilt for choice when it comes to fragrance. But upping the olfactory ante is luxurious French fragrance brand Annick Goutal, who have just opened their first American shop via an atmospheric West Village flagship store featuring the label’s iconic ‘scent organ’, gold butterfly mashrabiya adorning the wall, and of course – the heady concoctions so beloved by both fans and celebrities alike.

Perhaps the most well-known of AG’s offering is ‘Ce Soir ou Jamais’, an intoxicating, secret mix of 160 ingredients including Turkish rose and Ambrette seeds; but we also love the floral ‘Le Chèvrefeuille’, infused with jasmine, wild narcissus and lemon tree petitgrain, and the spice-inflected ‘Songes’ with hints of frangipani, black pepper and cinnamon. If you prefer something rather more masculine, try the ‘Mandragore’ with whiffs of bergamot, star anise, spearmint, or the citrusy-fresh ‘Eau de Monsieur’ with mandarin, mint, and sandalwood. Can’t get enough? Find the signature fragrances also in candles, diffusers, and skincare prods. Heaven-scent!
