Right as Rain

August 10, 2015
Singin’ in the Rain

It might already be rainy season in Manila, but ready your umbrellas, sweetlings, because things are about to get a whole lot wetter. And no, we’re not talking about the annual August downpour, but rather the much-anticipated arrival of touring London smash Singin’ in the Rain.

Following a sell-out season on the West End, acclaim from critics, and four Olivier Award nominations, the feel-good audience-pleaser is set to splash down for a strictly limited season at The Theatre at Solaire.

Based on the beloved 1952 musical comedy about Hollywood’s transition from silent films to ‘talkies’, the stage spectacular features all of the scenes and songs the movie made famous, from Good Morning and the slapstick Make ‘Em Laugh, to the iconic toe-tapping title track (carefully recreated with some 12,000 litres of water). But a word of warning, if you’ve managed to bag front-row seats, you’d be well-advised to don your finest galoshes, too.

Filling the role of Gene Kelly’s character, the charming Don Lockwood, is seasoned star Grant Almirall (who recently wowed UK theatre-goers as Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys) alongside leading lady Bethany Dickson as sweet voiced aspiring actress Kathy Selden, and an ensemble cast who, ahem, shower audiences with big dance routines and catchy chorales.

Just be sure to nab your tickets quicksticks, or you might miss out. And wouldn’t that just rain on your parade?
