Pyromusical Performance

February 06, 2017
Philippine International Pyromusical Competition

Pyromaniacs tend to get a bad name, known for their unhealthy obsession with fire. Manila will be hosting its very own firestarters this month though, with lashings of vibrant colour and light, and we assure you it will be a blast…

Its lengthy name may be a mouthful, but the eighth annual Philippine International Pyromusical Competition showcases Filipino pyrotechnic artistry with never-before-seen fireworks technology, lights, colours and musical fanfare, as well as expert pyro companies from around the world. A competitive event (the clue’s in the title!) showing off emerging talent and a distinctly local style, it aims to light up the night sky and sea.

Held each Saturday evening on Pasay’s Seaside Boulevard from mid-February to mid-March, the show includes synchronised fireworks set to shifting tunes, launched from both land and barges out in the ocean, as well as performances from popular bands. Tickets feature various tiers, including VIP patrons pampered with dinner, a separate VIP zone, and gold and silver areas (look for the ticket kiosks around the Mall of Asia or ideally book ahead).

Each weekend, fireworks hail from a different nation, with France and the Philippines kicking things off (11 Feb), followed by two companies each night from Germany (18 Feb), China (25 Feb), Canada (4 Mar), UK (11 Mar) and finally a closing set from Australia and the Philippines (18 Mar). Let there be light!
