Dress to Impress

August 17, 2015
Jun Escario

What is it about the initials J.E. on the Philippine style scene? Late last year we told you about Manila’s master of floaty, ultra-femme fashions Joel Escober – a favourite of the city’s best dressed – but there is another designer with the very same monogram whose timeless creations are just as beloved by local mode mavens.

We are talking, of course, about Jun Escario. For more than 20 years, the dressmaking don has been crafting elegantly embellished, ready-to-wear and bespoke gowns, the finest of which are available at his glass-fronted frock stop in Makati’s Greenbelt 5 mall.

Step inside the svelte space and you’ll find a wall’s worth of chic attire apt for every occasion, from red carpets and runways to church aisles and black-tie galas. Currently, prêt-à-porter pieces run the glam gamut from pastel cocktail dresses (perfect for the fine-dine dinner table or dance floor), to cinched full-circle skirts in jewel-bright shades, edgy jumpsuits and ethereal maxis.

But the most captivating articles are undoubtedly the wedding wears, each of which flaunt Jun’s flair for figure-enhancing folds and pleats, dramatic hand-stitched details and reimagining classic silhouettes. Get down, dress up!
