Top Picks… Alfresco Drink n’ Dine

June 16, 2017

Pesky government regs mean streetside dining is prohibited in HK, so to get that lovely breeze in your mane, you need to head up! Our faves include these five lofty alfresco drink n’ dine destinations...

Contemporary-chic Duddell’s, perched above Shanghai Tang’s Central flagship, is a restaurant/bar/gallery styled by Ilse Crawford. With tropical plants flanking comfy sofas, its timber-decked, fourth-floor Garden Terrace is an intimate rooftop lounge off The Salon, perfect for sampling cool cocktails, day-long Sino share plates and tasty dim sum, or weekend brunch.

Marine-inspired Seafood Room serves up modern seafood, spanning flapping-fresh fish, shellfish and ceviche with flavours from Asia, South America and the Med, plus oceanic cocktails. Soak up panoramas of Causeway Bay and Wan Chai from the airy tables on its spacious rooftop deck, enhanced by DJ tunes at sunset.

With its legendary alfresco terrace, softly-lit Sevva, on the 25th floor of Central’s Prince’s Building, is unbeatable for front-row views of HK’s harbour and colourful nightly light show, playing off neighbouring skyscrapers. Stand at the edge with cocktails or kick back on contempo sofas with bar snacks. The dress code is easy-glam.

With its funky colonial deck sporting wicker chairs, palm prints and foliage, Cassio is a smart-casual lounge bar/restaurant from the Dragon-i gang, on the second floor of LKF Tower in Central. Enjoy authentic tapas by London’s famed Barrafina, laid-back tunes and convivial cava. Padrón peppers, patatas bravas and churros, anyone?

Rooftop bar-meets-informal eatery at seventh-floor Fu Lu Shou, a wall art-daubed, style-conscious Asian restaurant on Hollywood Road where the motto is ‘Eat, Drink and Be Prosperous’. Prosper with fun cocktails, old-school Western Chinese dishes, and quirky desserts, promising tongue-in-cheek good times. Call for the latest door code, refreshed each Monday.
