Summer Scents

May 14, 2014

It’s oft been said that a person should choose just one fragrance to make his or her signature scent for life – a notion taken to heart by many a famous figure including Ms. Monroe – but while the idea is romantic and elegant in theory, it’s perhaps a bit old-fashioned in reality, with the plethora of lovely and seasonal scents to suit various moods and occasions. If you, like us, wish to banish those winter cobwebs with a spritz of light, bright, and refreshing scents, read on for our favourite summer fragrances this year!

For Her – Tom Ford’s Velvet Orchid

A much lighter twist on one of Ford’s most beloved perfumes, Black Orchid (2006), this new edition still carries his signature bold bouquet, but instead opens with refreshing tones of bergamot, mandarin, rum succan absolute (purified rum extract) and honey, giving way to a seductive core of Turkish rose oil, jasmine, and of course, the purple orchid found growing along the coast of southern Brazil. Rounding off the scent with base notes of Peru balsam, sandalwood, suede and vanilla, this balance of feminine florals and hypnotic earthiness is the perfect whiff for rolling around in a haystack this summer.

For Him – ‘H’ The Exclusive Aoud by Roja Parfums

British luxury line Roja Parfums has launched this new fragrance exclusively for Harrods London as a token of their 10-year collaboration, and as if in tribute to the department store’s benefactors, master perfumer Roja Dove has chosen the richly potent flavours of oud wood, patchouli and vetiver, mingled with some of the most expensive elements in the world, Jasmin de Grasse and Rose de Mai (both more expensive than gold), to create a pungent musk immediately reminiscent of the luxurious exoticism of the Middle East. Lawrence of Arabia, eat your heart out!

For Baby – ‘Petit Guerlain’ by Guerlain

Back by popular demand, the French perfume house has refreshed supplies of their niche children’s fragrance, Petit Guerlain, originally released in 1994. The new scent is just soft enough not to mask that adorable baby smell, but balmy enough to emit high notes of green, anise, and orange blossom; mimosa and honey at its heart; and a smooth base of pistachio and white musk, all artfully brought together by the perspicacious nose of botanist and perfumer Thierry Wasser. Bottled in a classic flacon embellished with little bumblebees and pink or blue ribbons, this unisex scent promises to make your little sweeties smell even sweeter!

Only available in-store from the Maison Guerlain flagship in Paris (EUR250), or at Harrods department store in London (GBP215)
