St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago

March 16, 2018

Few cities throw a better St Paddy’s Day party than Chicago, where the fun n’ frolics kick off early and run on late. All the city’s restaurants and bars enter into the spirit of the occasion, but here are the city’s most stylish diners for St Patrick’s Day craic.

With an enviable riverside location River x Roast Social House’s Blues and Brews pop-up puts a gourmet spin on the shenanigans. Chefs Tony Mantuano and John Hogan are crafting an Emerald Isle-inspired menu starring classics, such as shaved corned beef with mustard, swiss, pickle and pumpernickel, and Bay Mussels with shallots and Guinness, but natch. The dangerously sippable Irish cocktail offerings include the orangey Tipperary (made with Irish whiskey and vermouth) and zesty Foraged Cobbler (Irish gin, Fino sherry, cacao, strawberry, lemon, mint).

With its central situ, warm ambiance and meat-centric menu, Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse is an ideal option for the 17th, particularly if you have the crew in tow. Host to a post-parade party from 1pm, nip along to enjoy the hearty selection of steaks and salads, an epic wine list of American and global pours plus family-friendly atmos.

If you’re planning on attending the parade, prepare to battle the green-clad hordes; you’ll also want to scope out nearby drink n’ dine options. There are plenty of stout-toting boozers, especially in River North area, but if you’re more of a cocktail sipper, tropical tiki bar Three Dots and a Dash is a tip-top alternative, for its fruity pours and Polynesian-tinged fare. As with all venues on March 17, ensure you book in advance.

Wanting to escape the tacky shamrocks and novelty hats? Celebrate the day without leaving the sophisticated confines of the Peninsula Chicago. During the month of March, the hotel’s Pierrot Gourmet cafe and wine bar is serving a special St. Patrick’s Day menu; nibble on their innovative take on traditional Irish cuisine, like shepherd's pie flatbread and slow-roast corned beef. Meanwhile, The Bar ups the ante with an Emerald Isle cocktail, concocted with whiskey, pineapple and lemon juice and green beer, served 14-20 March. Sláinte!
