With a 75-year history, illustrious clientele including Frank Sinatra and John F. Kennedy, and faultless take on the American-style suit, New York-born menswear label Paul Stuart has long been a go-to outfitter for dapper Ivy Leaguers and the country’s top executives. But despite a sterling reputation and huge demand for its desirable wares, the brand has intentionally limited its US locations to just three, with the original NYC flagship coming first, followed by two Chicago outposts, the most recent addition in the Windy City’s The Loop district.
For PS’s full men’s line including wool shawl-collar tuxedos, cotton twill sport shirts and wool trousers, the tri-level Oak Street flagship is the place to go, with its early C.20th brownstone space restored with travertine floors, dark wood surfaces and plush maroon rugs. Meanwhile, gentlemanly accessories from over-the-calf socks and silk pocket squares, to knitted neckties and mother of pearl-inlaid cufflinks help complete the sharp picture. A booked appointment gets shoppers time with the seasoned in-house tailors for their own MTM and custom shirting and suits, while preppy-chic gals can check out the small women’s range including cashmere A-line dresses, silk herringbone jackets and Irish-made cable knit sweaters. The good news? All that and more is also available at the 3,600 sq ft LaSalle Street offshoot. Double dandy!
