Santa, Shopping and Seasonal Eats

December 09, 2016
The Grove Christmas

Be transported back to childhood for the festive season at LA’s The Grove Christmas, a nostalgic, OTT Tinsel Town extravaganza that’s classic Hollywood. A skip from The Peninsula, it not only boasts a button-cute Santa’s Cottage (styled like a scarlet gingerbread house), but also a 100-foot-tall white fir tree with 15,000 lights, flying model reindeer, and even magical snowfall (7-8pm nightly). Book online for your appointment or photo with the Man in Red or just walk in (until 24 Dec). For adult holiday cheer, there’s brass band music and evening performances Friday through Sunday by The Top Hats.

If you’ve still got some Christmas gifts to nail, then visit a few sassy shops while you’re in The Grove’s brand-packed retail, entertainment and dining complex. Big names at this airy outdoor mall include bumper booksellers Barnes & Noble, upscale department store Barneys NY for A-List fashion, Detroit-based Shinola for smart watches and luxe leather accessories, and Kiehl’s for globally sourced, premium beauty booty, including scents, soaps and skincare.

After all that Santa-socialising and shopping, you’ve probably worked up an appetite. It’s not all about turkey and potatoes at food-mad The Grove this December. Explore the fifth taste at flavour-wrangling Umami Burger, including Japanese-style wings, or enjoy miso lobster or togarashi-spiced fried chicken with wasabi honey at pricier Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill.
