The Wearstler Effect

February 28, 2013
Kelly Wearstler Boutique

When Los Angeles-based fashion, jewellery, handbag, homeware and interior designer Kelly Wearstler opened her eponymous boutique on Melrose just over a year ago, everyone from WWD to Architectural Digest sat up and took notice. Rather understandable, given its skinned herringbone walls, black, white and chrome palette, and raw, rock-star elegance made the space a perfect representation of Wearstler’s inherent across-the-board aesthetic, not to mention an under-one-roof home for all manner of her sought-after goodies.

And it’s into this life-sized trinket box of gold-dipped home furnishings, sculptural art and textural fashion that Wearstler’s Resort 2013 collection has landed. Cementing her renown as a master of colours, prints and silhouettes, Wearstler has once again seamlessly melded gritty edge with refined femininity in a collection that’s as fluid as it is wildly contrasting. Simple shifts, tees and silk trousers are graphically printed or purposely slashed, cashmere-blended sweaters are juxtaposed with mesh insets and leather accents, while a linen jacquard flared-skirt suit in grey is one of the few pieces devoid of blasts of aubergine, yellow, turquoise and red hues. Part primal chic, part luxe lady, the collection is totally effortless, entirely of the moment and sure to be snapped up in a hurry. Go Kelly!
