Culture Calling… Hollywood Bowl
Hollywood is the most star-studded of towns, and boy do they twinkle brightly at night above the iconic arch of the Bowl. The awesome amphitheatre with rockin’ acoustics and rolling green knolls is the spiritual home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and every year plays host to an impressive programme of musical performances. This summer’s setlist happens to be particularly spangled by highlights, with a number of high profile must-sees stepping out into the arena.
Kicking off the roll-call of big ticketeers is Beach Boy and bonafide legend Brian Wilson, who will be performing his famed Pet Sounds on July 10. Then, guitar great Jeff Beck will celebrate his 50-year career of electrifying string-picking on August 10 with some very special friends including Steve Tyler and Buddy Guy.
Diva Diana Ross is “Coming Out” on July 15 and we “Heard It Through the Grapevine” that R&B royalty Gladys Knight will grace the stage on August 3. Soul sisters, rejoice!
The Bowl also boasts a few draw cards for the classicists. The operatic grandeur of Puccini’s Tosca will be played out on July 24, and Stravinsky’s Firebird will be performed with epic War Horse-esque puppeteering on August 4. Plus there’s the annual Tchaikovsky Spectacular on August 5, where the Philharmonic and the American Ballet’s prima-rinas do their thing, crowned by some stunning pyrotechnics. Take your seats ladies and gents…
