While Laurent and Arik Bitton swiftly gained a reputation for the edgy street-meets-chic style of their label IRO, until last year there was no sign of the French fashion house making inroads into the eagerly awaiting LA scene. But then came the announcement – the Parisians would be launching their retail assault via not one, but two Californian outposts, and now, 12 months on, the wait is finally over with the opening of a brand spanking new Venice Beach boutique to stand alongside the Beverly Hills flagship in a knockout West Coast offering.
Oversized lamb’s wool coats, flounce overlay leather skirts and flowy rayon tops hang tight along the racks of the streamlined, 1,800 sq ft space, while sleek clutches and lace-up booties complete the ladies’ offering and pop against the minimal concrete floors, wood-panelled walls and metal-framed shelves. Style-conscious gents are not forgotten, with zip up nappa leather jackets, slim fit denim jeans and pure cotton button-ups by way of core wardrobe essentials, plus low cut suede boots and studded leather belts to round off the just-thrown-together look. French aesthetic, LA situ – and a double dose of attitude from IRO. Merci!
