American Tea Room

As one of LA’s hippest hoods, Downtown long ago established its coffee credentials with a shot of hot roasters like Bestia and Stumptown. But, over the past years tea-totalers of the Arts District have been left potty and parched by the lack of worthy Oolong options.

Now however, the Deco district is finally getting its own cha-ming locale in the form of the new American Tea Room, a vast and airy, patio-fronted salon where drinkers of Darjeeling and gunpowder green can stay, steep and sip from English Breakfast hour till Earl Grey o’clock and beyond.

Measuring some 5,600-sq-ft in size, the ex-warehouse space keeps it’s industri-cool with bare bricks, exposed beams and polished concrete, all cleverly complemented by Mid Century-style art and furniture, and vertical garden walls.

Nab a shaded spot out front and steam on into the Tea Zone where you’ll find blends ranging from single-estate grown Ceylon black and organic rooibos, to imperial-grade matcha and silver needle white.

In need of something stiffer? You’ll also find tea-infused cocktails, as well as pretty pastries by Valerie Confections, artisan-made pots and mugs, and all manner of bags for making your brews at home. Tea-riffic!
