Sky-high Sipper

June 30, 2014
The View 3912

The swish cocktail bar set atop the shimmering Xiandai Soho skyscraper isn’t shy about publicising its biggest drawcard. Thirty-nine floors high and with floor-to-ceiling windows, The View 3912 offers exactly what it says on the tin: not just any old view, but one of the most breath-snatching bird’s-eye panoramas of Beijing, sweeping from surrounding Chaoyang down to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City.

But it isn’t just the sky-high cityscapes that have made this upscale evening sip spot a favourite of the after-work crowd – owner Lisa Guo has moulded a tempting menu of reinvented classic cocktails, like the Jack Rose with apple brandy and the tangy kiwi mojito sweetened with passion fruit. A good selection of European wines is also available, as is a menu of international favourites to pair. Snag a spot at the wood-panelled bar to sample jalapeno and pesto-topped corn chips, or, if you’re feeling especially famished, bag a booth seat by the windows and tuck into top offerings like foie gras prawn salad or Australian Angus beef steak. Food is served until midnight and drinks until 2am so sink back into one of the red leather lounges and watch the bustle of bright-lights Beijing from 150m up. Breathtaking!
