Whiskey Whiz

March 16, 2015
The Foxhole

Beijing is certainly no stranger to single concept bars. Not long ago, we shone a spotlight on the offbeat paean to Chinese hard liquor baiju Capital Spirits, and before that we pulled up a barstool up at craft brew-centric tavern Jing-A Taproom. And this week, landing in the limelight for its extensive selection of whiskies from around the world is the recently opened The Foxhole, a gent’s club-like nook neatly tucked away on a Ritan Park backstreet.

Within its dimly lit space of exposed brick, dark-wood floors and black Chesterfields, get acquainted with The Foxhole’s range of top-shelf pours, with three pages solely dedicated to single malts. Standouts include hard-to-find varieties such as Scotch by Isle of Mulls distillery Tobermory and Bruichladdich’s Port Charlotte, which can either be taken neat or on the rocks with hand-carved ice balls. And if you’re not a whisky fan, fret not – have an expert bartender mix you a classic cocktail such as a Bloody Mary served with the customary celery stick or pop open a bottle of Dom and celebrate. Whi-zz, pop, bang!
