Euro Threads with Eastern Edge

February 16, 2015
Parisian bastion of threads and treads Berluti has long been a favourite among fashion-savvy fellows in Europe, but like many of its peers the label is now looking east for expansion, and even inspiration. The current S/S15 collection of suits, casualwear, accessories and leather loafers takes its cue from the ancient Japanese art of origami, ditching the stitching in favour of single sheets of super-fine, strong fabrics worked into elegant designs using pleats, folds and fused seams. And, fortunately for the modish men of Beijing, all of the aforementioned is currently on display at the new Berluti boutique in China World Mall.
Outfitted with dark woods, inviting loungers and picture-box shelves, the sprawling gents’ club-style space currently sports earth-hued blazers cut from butter-soft calfskin leather, angular open-collar shirts, feather-light cashmere trenchcoats and the brand’s signature handmade shoes in various shades and classic styles. Something for the weekend can also be found among their everyday sportswear selection, from crisp polos to simple sweaters. Or if you can’t find anything suit-able, ask about their bespoke services which will have you kitted out with everything from fully customised coattails to the perfect pair of jeans – plus they’ll even keep your measurements on file for fuss-free future orders. Berluti-ful.
