Pop Art + Cocktails

January 02, 2014

The epicentre of the contemporary Chinese art market, as well as home to a fast-growing and discerning tippling scene, it’s no surprise that Beijing is where you’ll find one of the country’s coolest new bars. Dubbed Entourage, it’s a dapper art gallery-cum-imbiber from edgy local architecture firm Latitude (in one of its first small-scale projects following the massive Bank of Dongguan and the ultra modern Meditation Residence in Shaanxi), and it boasts a seriously sleek, monochrome 200 sq m space.

Taking its design cues from traditional gallery layouts, the bar is divided into three spaces: the minimalist, white-walled Light Fall Room, the Mirror Room outfitted with a spectrum of lights and mirrors, and the industrial-tinged Dada Room where furniture doubles as art. In each of the rooms is displayed a smattering of works by local contemporary artists, and visitors are invited to interact with the art over a series of creative ‘Entourage Inspiration’ cocktails, with standouts including the Cool Ginger with vodka, Cointreau, orange, ginger ale and fresh ginger. Coming straight off the back of a two-month pop-up art show hosted by SURGE Beijing, we’re sure there’s much in store for this unique concept in the coming year!
