It’s Tiki Time

October 26, 2015
Bungalow Tiki & Cocktail Bar

Less than a month after opening earlier in the year (and much to the dismay of its early devotees), it seemed the sun was already setting on Beijing’s hottest new watering hole. Thank the Polynesian gods, then, that Bungalow Tiki & Cocktail Bar’s hiatus was short-lived. It’s back and it’s shacked up at new and improved digs in downtown Dongcheng. Pop on your grass skirt and hula those autumn blues away – it’s tiki time.

Complete with faux palm thatch, casually strung flotsam-filled fishing nets, kitsch sunset art and all the Easter Island-inspired hardware your hula heart could desire, Bungalow is a real-deal Trader Vic’s-style charmer. It also mixes some of the city’s best cocktails, with the requisite paper umbrella to garnish, of course.

Lovingly crafted by owner and head barkeep, Philip Tory, the libations list is a veritable vintage time capsule. Sip on Mai Tais and Piña Coladas, as well as others you might not be familiar with, such as tropicana triumph Leilani’s Volcano (a blend of coconut rum, guava nectar and pineapple juice served in a plastic coconut), sugary Painkilla (a mix of rum, coconut and fruit juices), and the not-to-be-taken-lightly Zombie (a heady kick of various rums and not much else). Aloha to that!
