Boutique Brews in Beijing

October 20, 2014
Jing-A Taproom

What started out in 2011 as two expats making small-batch pale ale in their home kitchen, under the moniker Jing-A Brewing Co, has since risen like fermenting yeast to become the toast of Beijing’s boutique beer scene, with their own brewery inside bistro The Big Smoke and tap locations across the city, including at buzzy organic hit CHI Restaurant. Well, now local hop heads have yet another reason to raise a glass with the opening in south Sanlitun of the craft label’s very own Jing-A Taproom.

The exposed brick space offers their full bevy of porters, ales and lagers, plus limited release draughts conceived by guest consultants, and a curated menu of accompanying bar snacks. Behind the bare bulb-strung counter, 16 taps are pouring suds including the Flying Fist IPA, a malt and grain-based fully-bodied concoction infused with citrus scents; the Koji Red flavoured with sake rice, wasabi root and ginger; and the refreshing Mandarin Summer Wheat, a Belgian-style blend spiked with orange and coriander. True ale aficionados should book in for one of the regular tasting sessions or, if you’d prefer to sup while you sip, nab a booth seat and pair your pint with roast artisan sausages, a bacon and grilled cheese sandwich and a generous heap of sweet potato parmesan fries. Hear, hear to beer!
